Will it work for you?
The idea has probably fluttered around you and you might have thought about it, but found it very hard to put a plan into action.
I'm here to help :)
After watching a video introduction to Ryan Eliason's plan for his Visionary Business School, here: program.visionarybusinessschool.com/
I realized that was possible.
Not only it is possible, but it is also rewarding.
Writers are not just writers anymore.
They are entrepreneurs!
Let's that sink a minute...
To be an entrepreneur means you will need to understand how business is done. And that's why people like Ryan come into play.
Not only your book has to be good and fit a demand, but it is also expected that you will actively take part in its promotion.
Being ready to keep a book alive by your efforts might actually make the difference between success and failure.
It might be a criteria that a publisher will take into account to decide whether or not they will publish your book.
The faith in you and your book might decide the amount of the advance.
The efforts they will put into promoting you will depend on how involved you are.
The more pro-active you are, the better.
And it doesn't need to be a chore.
Would it be nice to write a book and actually make it fit into your lifestyle and ideals?
If making money is your only goal, let's see how this can be tweaked into something more rewarding.
So, here is the plan:
1) Find who you are. Be honest. Be genuine.
Find out what matters to you and how you can talk about it in your book.
In other words, find your niche and focus your efforts on it.
If you are conscious about nature, can you make your novel include characters who are doing something to prevent pollution or who work for the Humane Society? It doesn't need to be big. Make sure the reader can have discussions about this theme after reading your book. It might not be the focus of your novel, just a subplot. But you will talk about things you care about while entertaining. Your heart might be more engaged into your writing, which will make your writing more engaging and real. You will talk about what you know and care about.
2) Make a difference.
When your book talks about something interesting, something people want to know more about, it's more power to your book. You can be of service because you are rising awareness. The theme is not supposed to take over the story, but it can enhance it and give the story more meaning and help the characters connect more with the readers, which is also desirable.
3) Engage your reader outside the book.
You do not need to become an activist. However, you can create materials that will contribute to a better understanding of the book. You will have something more to engage your reader. You will have something teachers can use to discuss inside their class. Your book can be a stepping stone to something bigger.
When a writer writes something, they must have a vision of the future. It is not enough anymore to create an entertaining story and then send it into the world. It is expected that you continue feeding your creation and keep it alive. If you have just a story to grow your audience, that might not be enough. Grow a plant that has offshoots can benefit you and your audience.
Be of service while entertaining. Be the change you want to see in the world.
