Authors are people.
As people, they come in all shapes.
Some authors have real mental issues.
Some authors neglected their families in order to write some of the most beautiful books in history.
Some authors had to experience in real life what they put in their books.
Some authors recreated their mental issues in their books.
Some authors voiced their prejudices.
Some people have justified their behavior; other people have condemned them. Some authors lived in remorse for their actions; others never admitted they did wrong.
